Plume launches tokenized payroll pilot, letting employees receive wages in WTGXX fund shares, boosting adoption of yield-bearing digital assets in daily finance
Plume has launched a new payroll pilot using tokenized assets. The project works with Toku and WisdomTree. Moreover, the pilot allows employees to receive part of their salary in tokenized fund shares instead of cash.
Tokenized Payroll Brings Investment Into Everyday Payments
The pilot uses WisdomTree’s WTGXX tokenized money market fund. Eligible workers at Plume can choose to receive a portion of wages in this fund. Therefore, part of their salary can earn returns immediately instead of staying idle.

Eligible Plume contributors can now choose to receive a portion of their salary in shares of a regulated money market fund.

This idea changes how payroll usually works. Traditionally, salaries are paid in cash. After that, workers decide how to save or invest money. However, many people delay these decisions and keep funds unused.

With this system, money starts working from the moment it arrives. Employees do not need extra steps to invest. As a result, the process becomes simple and automatic for users.
Moreover, the fund is regulated and designed to be stable. This helps reduce risks compared to other crypto assets. Therefore, the pilot focuses on safe and practical use of tokenization in daily life.
In addition, this move shows how tokenized real-world assets are growing. These include tokenized treasuries and money market funds. Such products already exist, but reaching users has been difficult until now.
Payroll Becomes a New Path for Financial Access and Growth
Payroll is one of the most common financial systems in the world. Almost every worker receives payments regularly through it. However, the system has not changed much over time.
Usually, payroll only transfers money from employer to employee. After that, financial decisions depend on the individual. This often leads to delays in saving or investing money.
Therefore, many people miss chances to grow their funds. Idle cash may stay unused for long periods. As a result, wealth-building becomes slower for many workers.
The new pilot tries to solve this issue directly. It connects investment with payroll. This means users receive assets that can grow over time. Therefore, it removes the need for separate investment actions.
Moreover, earlier crypto payroll systems already showed that payments can move on blockchain networks. Workers accepted digital payments, and companies managed operations successfully. However, those systems mostly used stablecoins.
Stablecoins still act like digital cash and do not generate returns. In contrast, this new model delivers a yield-bearing asset. Therefore, it adds more value at the time of payment.
Pilot Aims to Expand Real-World Use of Tokenized Assets
The main goal of this pilot is to improve adoption of tokenized funds. Many financial products already exist but face distribution challenges. Users often need to open accounts and move funds manually.
However, payroll removes these barriers completely. It works within an existing system that people already use. Therefore, adoption becomes easier without changing user habits.
In addition, the pilot highlights a shift in financial infrastructure. Tokenization is moving beyond trading and into daily use. This shows how blockchain technology can support real-world needs.
Furthermore, the project partners bring different strengths. Plume provides the platform, while Toku supports payroll systems. WisdomTree offers the regulated financial product behind the service.
Together, they create a system that blends finance and technology. This combination may help more people access investment tools easily. Therefore, it could support better financial outcomes over time.
Overall, the pilot marks an important step for tokenized finance. It shows how everyday processes can deliver more value. As a result, payroll may become a key channel for future financial innovation.
