Singapore Gulf Bank Adds Round-the-Clock U.S. Dollar Payments With BNY

Singapore Gulf Bank now offers BNY’s 24/7 USD Book Transfers, letting clients send U.S. dollar payments on nights, weekends, and holidays.

Singapore Gulf Bank (SGB) has made it easier for its clients to send U.S. dollars at any hour. The bank said it now offers BNY’s 24/7 USD Book Transfers service. With it, eligible payments can be completed outside normal U.S. banking hours, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.

Before this, clients often had to plan around U.S. bank hours. Now they can move money when they need to. The service can be used to add money to accounts, pay bills, and handle urgent money moves between countries.

The payments can happen at any time between certain accounts. These accounts must be held directly with BNY. They can also be held at other banks that use BNY and have signed up for the service. Both business clients and regular customers can use it. SGB is one of the first banks in the world to adopt it.

What Leaders Said

Ali Moosa, SGB’s Executive Vice Chairman, said the bank’s clients work in many markets and time zones. He said their needs do not always fit U.S. bank hours.

“Working with BNY strengthens our payment network,” Moosa said. He added that it supports SGB’s promise to offer real-time banking across borders.

Bana Akkad Azhari, BNY’s head of Global Payments and Trade for the EMEA region, also shared her thoughts. She said payments that run all day and night give banks more freedom to manage their cash. They can also take care of urgent bills faster. She said BNY is happy to offer the service to SGB and to support its clients’ changing needs.

Who Will Benefit

SGB is a digital bank based in Bahrain. The new service helps its eligible business clients and crypto-focused clients. They can now complete U.S. dollar deals fully outside U.S. banking hours. The bank said the change also helps it serve clients in the Gulf region, Asia, and beyond.

Building on Earlier Steps

This move builds on work SGB did earlier this year. The bank joined BNY’s network of partner banks. It also began using BNY’s Fixed Income Brokerage platform.

SGB already had other tools for round-the-clock payments. One is SGB Net, the bank’s own settlement network. It was built for real-time payments in many currencies.

Before adding BNY’s service, SGB used J.P. Morgan’s Wire 365 service. This let it process U.S. dollar payments without a break.

SGB also recently linked its network to the institutional systems of Payward, the parent company of Kraken. This helps clients move money over weekends without waiting for banks to open.

By growing its ties with BNY, SGB becomes stronger and more reliable. It also helps keep tokenized finance, which is finance built on digital tokens, open at all times. The same goes for common investments such as U.S. Treasury bills and money market funds.

Why It Matters

Normally, U.S. dollar payments follow the hours of U.S. banks. When those banks are closed, payments often have to wait. This can be a problem for companies that need to pay someone right away. Always-on payments help remove that wait.

A book transfer moves money between accounts that both sit at BNY. Because the money stays inside one bank’s books, it can move quickly.

SGB announced the news on its website and social media channels. With the new service, clients who work across time zones no longer have to plan around U.S. bank hours.
